Selling Website Advertising

A lot of online businesses carry advertising on their websites in order to generate revenue. There's a couple of ways you can go with carrying advertising on a website... you can actually sell advertising space or you can join an advertising program like Google Adsense.

If you want to sell advertising, you'll have to have a lot of traffic to your website... no one wants to buy advertising on a website that very few people will see. You'll also have to have some form of tracking in place for advertisers to track how their ads are doing on your site.

I've sold advertising on websites before. Frankly, it's more trouble than it's worth, unless you can hire a firm to handle it all for you.

Since you're just starting your online business, this probably isn't going to be an option for you until you gain a substantial amount of traffic for your new website.

A more viable option for you is to enroll in a program like Google Adsense (or a similar program). These types of programs will pay you on a per click basis each time a visitor clicks on the advertising. It's a very small amount… sometimes only a penny per click… but those penny's add up quickly and can produce a pretty nice income.

Take a look at the advertisement on the right of this page and you'll seen an example of some of the website advertising on this website. You can easily do the same thing on your website.

Each of these types of programs have their own sets of rules before you'll be excepted into their programs, but they are easy to set up.

I highly suggest you consider using this type of advertising on your website in order to help monetize your content. It's something that I've earned a healthy income with for several years.
