Lead Generation

Depending on your business, you may only want to use your website to generate leads.

For example, maybe you have a resume writing service where you want people to fill out a request form or call you about their resume.

That's one reason to generate leads... but there is another reason too.

Many online businesses use their websites to generate leads so that they can continually follow up with their website visitors and turn them into customers. According to research, prospects have to see something five to seven times before they will purchase it.

If you choose to operate an online newsletter, this would be an example of lead generation, but there are lots of other strategies that you can employ in order to generate leads for your business.

Let me give you an example of how many online businesses generate leads:

  1. Write a short report (10 pages or so) and turn it into a PDF. The report would be written to address some kind of problem your target audience is having. In addition, it would also contain links where readers could get more information about the solution -- Your product!

  2. Create an email capture form with a short teaser or advertisement for the report and post it on your website. The form would be part of an autoresponder system... don't worry, it's really easy to set up!

  3. Create several other short messages to send out to your subscribers over the next several days, weeks, or months. Each message would also have some kind of useful information in it and would refer readers back to your product.

  4. Load all your messages into your autoresponder system so that they will be delivered automatically to your subscribers.

  5. Website visitors see your report offer and submit their email address in order to receive the report.

  6. Once they're email is in the system (your autoresponder system), they will receive the report and then the other messages you've written for them at the intervals that you've specified.

  7. After they see your message 5 - 7 times, they purchase the product you're promoting... if you're messages have been effective.

I know this may seem a bit complicated... but after you've done it once you'll see just how easy it is... don't worry!

My point is that websites can be excellent lead generation tools and that lead generation is a major part of many kinds of businesses... including online businesses, so my advice is to plan to use your website for lead generation as part of your overall business plan.
